BAIC Unveils BAIC B30 Locally And Bold New Launches Globally
When an automaker makes waves across continents, it signals more than a new model rolling off the production line. It’s a statement of intent. BAIC has been building momentum in South Africa for years, and 2025 marks a turning point as the brand introduces a fleet of exciting vehicles worldwide. .
From luxury electric sedans to rugged off-roaders, BAIC is stepping into the global spotlight with ambition and flair, and Mzansi motorists are about to reap the rewards.
Spotlight On The BAIC B30
The much-anticipated BAIC B30 will make its South African debut at the Festival of Motoring, hosted at Kyalami Circuit. For local fans, this will be the first chance to get up close with the all-new SUV before its official launch later this year.
The BAIC B30, already known in China as the BJ30, takes its place alongside the popular B40 Plus as part of BAIC’s off-road lineup. Measuring 4,730mm long with a ground clearance of 215mm, it’s a vehicle built for adventure, whether that means Joburg traffic or the rugged terrain of the Cederberg.
International versions include both petrol and hybrid options, with power outputs ranging from 138kW to a mighty 301kW when paired with an e-motor. Inside, the SUV promises high-end features like a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, heated and ventilated seats, and clever tech such as adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera. In true BAIC fashion, practicality isn’t forgotten; the front seats fold flat to create a sleeping space, perfect for camping getaways.

Global Showcases And Milestones
South Africa isn’t the only market celebrating. Across Asia and beyond, BAIC has been on a roll. At Auto Shanghai 2025, the group introduced seven new models under brands like ARCFOX, Stelato, and Beijing Off-Road, cementing its push into premium and intelligent mobility. Shortly afterwards, eight international passenger and commercial vehicles were unveiled at the Hong Kong International Automotive & Supply Chain Expo.
The global expansion has been rapid. Indonesia saw the debut of the hybrid BJ30 SUV earlier this year (the brand’s first right-hand drive market outside of China), while the Philippines welcomed the B30e Dune in 2024. Each launch reflects the auto brand’s growing international footprint and commitment to producing vehicles that resonate with diverse drivers.
Stelato And The Luxury Edge
Luxury mobility is no longer the reserve of a few legacy brands. With the launch of Stelato in 2024, BAIC created a premium badge that combines its automotive muscle with Huawei’s software expertise. The Stelato S9 sedan made headlines for its sleek design and intelligent features, and 2025 will see the introduction of the S9T wagon.
The response has already been extraordinary. Within a single day of presales opening in China, the S9T racked up 20,000 pre-orders, including 10,000 in the very first hour. This station wagon blends exhilarating performance with everyday practicality, offering outputs of up to 516 horsepower in its AWD configuration, and nearly 800 km of range for the RWD model.
Inside, drivers can look forward to a cabin that feels more like a luxury lounge, complete with multiple screens, a premium audio system, and even a built-in mini-fridge. With prices in China ranging from around $46,570 to $54,020, it positions Stelato as a bold new force in the premium EV space.

Commitment To Innovation And Growth
Behind the headlines lies a bigger story. In 2024, BAIC sold over 1.71 million vehicles and generated revenue of 480 billion yuan. Looking ahead, the group aims to exceed 3 million annual vehicle sales by 2027, with more than half expected to be New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). To support this vision, BAIC has pledged to invest 50 billion RMB in research and development over the next five years.
This level of investment means drivers can expect more hybrids, EVs, and intelligent vehicles to reach markets like South Africa. It also shows BAIC’s determination to be recognised not just as a fast-growing manufacturer, but as a long-term innovator shaping the future of mobility.
Why This Matters For South African Drivers
For local motorists, BAIC’s global momentum translates into real benefits. Models like the B30 are designed with adventure in mind, offering tech-forward features and off-road readiness at a time when South Africans value versatility in their vehicles. The introduction of global platforms such as Stelato also sets the stage for a broader choice of luxury and intelligent vehicles in the years to come.
As Group1 BAIC, we’re excited to bring these advances closer to home. Every launch reflects the brand’s belief in designing vehicles that are practical, stylish, and forward-thinking, which are qualities that resonate deeply with South African roads and lifestyles.
